Shekira Dennis

Believes in empowering communities through civic education and participation. With over 10 years of professional experience, Shekira demonstrates a proven record in steering successful community outreach programs and initiatives.

Shekira currently serves as the Managing Partner of Next-Wave Strategic Consulting Group a political consulting and public engagement firm. She previously served as the Community Outreach Director at the Harris County District Attorney’s Office tasked with communicating the structure, function and vision of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to community stakeholders.

As a committed and service-oriented leader, Shekira has served as the Program Coordinator at the Texans Together Education Fund where she worked to engage low propensity voters in underserved communities to participate in the civic process. She led KIPP Houston and KIPP Sunnyside campuses as an IGNITE Texas facilitator empowering young women to run for office and went on to serve as the Deputy Political Director for the Sylvester Turner for Mayor Campaign.

Shekira received her first internship opportunity in the office of former City of Houston Council Member Wanda Adams. Shortly thereafter, her expertise earned her a summer organizing fellowship with President Obama’s campaign.

Shekira also completed the White House Internship Program, where she worked in the Office of Presidential Personnel in the Obama Administration.
Shekira is a graduate of the Houston Black Leadership Institute (HBLI), and the prestigious Women’s Campaign School at Yale. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs at Texas Southern University where she served as the 64th President of the Student Government Association.

Erika EJ Johnson

A pragmatic solution-driven Organizational Development professional who understands the balance between Process, People and Technology. Highly experienced in the execution of organizational development methodologies and values a “people-centric” organizational culture. Well-versed in managing the full change management (OCM) life-cycle and process reengineering.

EJ has served as the Co-Chair of the 2014 Gulf Coast Young Women’s Leadership Symposium, Community Liaison for the HISD Career and Technical Chamber of Commerce, Board Member for the World Youth Foundation, Co-Founder of the City of Houston’s “Find Your Path” youth career expo, HTV host and producer for “I Love Houston” and the 2018 GOTV Program Director for the Houston Black American Democrats. In 2014, she was recognized by i10media as one of Houston’s top 40 under 40 leaders.

Her proven record of community engagement expertise has provided her opportunities to consult on various political campaigns. She also is Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certified.
